It has
been estimated that 10 to 25% of employees are sometimes on the job while
under the influence of alcohol or some illicit drug. This program is
for HR Managers, Safety Directors, supervisors and all managers who want
to have an understanding of the behavioral warning signs and symptoms of
employee substance abuse and how to deal with an employee who is
exhibiting suspicious behavior.
This
program meets DOT requirements.
Participants will learn how to:
- Identify the warning signs of substance
abuse
- Know the affects that substance abuse
has on individuals
- Establish objective criteria for making
a "reasonable suspicion" determination
- Learn techniques for confronting an
employee who exhibits warning signs of substance abuse
- Understand the issues surrounding
substance abuse under the ADA
- Sample policy and policy options for
employers
About the
Instructors
Kenneth Ruffner, M.S.,
Licensed Psychologist
Mr. Ruffner is a licensed Psychologist in Pennsylvania. His clinical experience
includes crisis intervention, inpatient and partial day treatment in a psychiatric
treatment setting. Mr. Ruffner specializes in treating depression and
anxiety. He has over twenty-five years of experience. He has
been trained to conduct critical incident stress debriefings, and is a
member of LMA's CISD team. He does presentations on CISD, resilience,
stress, depression and suicide, and is also experienced in assessing drug &
alcohol problems.
Barry Frey, CTC, Senior Consultant
At LMA Consulting Group, Barry combines his workplace experience and
knowledge of how successful businesses grow and develop their human
resources with a deep understanding of human behavior. He provides HR
consultations to hundreds of companies and organizations including family
businesses, manufacturing and construction firms, as well as professional
associations. His work has included systems and process improvement
development, executive recruitment and compensation planning, dealing with
the human and legal aspects of reduction in force actions and
organizational surveys.
