FORMAL COMPANY
REFERRALS
This should be done only as a last change and in
consultation with your HR department. It is advisable for your company
to have a formal company referral policy that is clear and practiced
consistently. A policy enforced inconsistently is worse than having no
policy at all. Ideally, Formal Company Referrals represent 0-2% of all
referrals. The practice of early supervisory intervention should obviate
the need for formal referrals in most cases. When they do occur:
a.
Last Chance - the employee has exhausted all
steps in progressive discipline
b. Safety - employee's behavior has caused a
problem for the safety of self / others
c. Employee has violated a policy that requires
an assessment; e.g. Substance Abuse Policy
